Description
Whether you look to a higher power or to your own inner strength and rationality, knowing the difference between what you can and what you cannot change improves your ability to live day to day.
The Serenity Prayer reminds us of this; however, we may read the prayer and not act upon it. This journal prompts action by providing a place for you to commit to paper what you hope the prayer will guide you to do.
Let me explain. Upon retirement, I got into over-drink- ing. Then I quit and joined Alcoholics Anonymous. AA of- fers consistency — every session starts with the Serenity Prayer. Yet, as I participated, I wondered to myself, “Is mut- tering this prayer helpful? Shouldn’t I do more than just mutter? Wouldn’t a journal help?” So, I created The Seren- ity & Courage Journal, the first of the series of Journals for Seekers™.
Serenity is the state of being calm, peaceful, and un- troubled. I find that serenity comes to me slowly, through the acceptance of many small daily things that I cannot change.
Courage is strength in the face of pain or fear. As with serenity, my courage is developing slowly, through many small acts of standing up for myself and then for others.
Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment. Perhaps my greatest wisdom lies in knowing that I live one day at a time.
